In August 2023, Africa's crude steel production was 1.5 million tons, an increase of 16.1%. Crude steel production in Asia and Oceania was 115.7 million tonnes, up 3.5% year-on-year. Crude steel production in the European Union (27) was 9.1 million tonnes, down 4.4% year-on-year; Crude steel production in other European countries was 3.4 million tons, down 3.2% year-on-year; Crude steel production in the Middle East was 2.8 million tons, down 16.0% year-on-year; North American crude steel production was 9.2 million tons, down 2.6% year-on-year. Crude steel production in Russia and other CIS countries + Ukraine was 7.5 million tons, up 10.7% year-on-year; Crude steel production in South America was 3.4 million tonnes, down 8.1% year-on-year.
